Elegant transformation of a moss-challenged yard into a harmonious blend of river rock, native ferns, and manicured lawn spaces.

Client Needs

Our clients wanted a lush, green garden without a high renovation cost or ongoing maintenance. With both of them working full-time, the garden needed to stay attractive and well maintained with minimal effort.

Garden Conditions & Challenges

The north-facing backyard was heavily shaded by mature pine trees, and much of the lawn had naturally been replaced by moss. Replacing the lawn would have required extensive soil work and would likely have failed again under the same conditions.

The property also had an unused city-owned strip along the roadside. Instead of leaving this area empty and difficult to maintain, we wanted to turn it into a natural-looking feature that would visually connect with the rest of the landscape.

Our Solution

Rather than removing the existing moss, we worked with the natural site conditions and overseeded the area with micro-clover, creating a greener, lower-maintenance and more sustainable groundcover.

Along the roadside, after cleaning and grading the area, we installed weed-control fabric and created a natural dry-creek-inspired feature using river rock, larger stones and ferns. Aluminum edging was added throughout the garden to define the planting and clover areas while making mowing and maintenance easier.
