Allan Block Retaining Wall — Tsawwassen, BC | 2026

A failing timber retaining wall was transformed into a reinforced, stepped Allan Block system with integrated drainage and landscaped planting terraces.

Client Needs

The existing timber retaining wall had deteriorated and was no longer safely supporting the front-yard slope. The client needed a durable, long-term replacement that would improve safety while maintaining an attractive residential landscape.

Garden Conditions & Challenges

Removing the failing wall required careful sequencing to protect the existing slope and surrounding landscape. The replacement also required a strong, reinforced foundation, proper drainage and a design capable of managing substantial soil loads on the sloped property.

Height limitations also influenced the design, leading to a stepped retaining wall configuration rather than one continuous tall wall.

Our Solution

Quant constructed a stepped Allan Block retaining wall system supported by reinforced concrete footings and structural anchoring. They installed drainage behind the walls to protect the foundation and reduce hydrostatic pressure.

The stepped layout distributed the retained soil load across multiple levels while creating planting terraces between the walls, allowing the hardscape to blend more naturally into the garden.
