Small Backyard Renovation with Living Wall — Surrey, BC | 2025

A compact Surrey townhouse backyard was transformed into a low-maintenance, dog-friendly outdoor space with improved drainage, new paving, a deck, pressure-treated wood features, and a Quant Living Wall that turns an unused wall into part of the garden.

Client Needs

The homeowners wanted a low-maintenance backyard that would be practical for everyday use, safe for their dog, and visually interesting without feeling crowded.

Garden Conditions & Challenges

The backyard's limited size meant every square foot had to serve a purpose. The existing drainage problem also needed to be resolved before installing the new landscape, and plant selections had to be carefully considered for a home with a dog.

Our Solution

We installed a French drainage system to improve site drainage, created new paving using 2' × 2' concrete slabs, constructed a pressure-treated wood wall, and added a new deck area. Low-maintenance, dog-conscious plant selections were used throughout the garden. The key feature was a Quant Living Wall, which transformed an otherwise unused vertical surface into an additional layer of garden without taking away valuable ground space.
